Obituary of Wayne Laurence Steed

Wayne Laurence Steed, 79, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, FL. He was born in Mesquite, TX, on February 1, 1936. Wayne proudly served in the United States Navy for 31 years, and later retired from a second career at Winn-Dixie in 2005. Wayne loved to attend church, play the organ and piano, teach Sunday school and lead music, and he loved everything related to airplanes and flying. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sandra Martin Steed; two sons, Donald Steed and Craig (Debbie) Steed; three daughters, Waynell (Brian) Warren, Sheri (Martin) Atkinson and Shawda (Mike) Quinn; three step-children, Sheilah Marcum (Joe) Gibson, Jim Marcum and Jason (Kristi) Marcum; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. A service led by Pastor David Tarkington will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service, at First Baptist Church of Orange Park, 1140 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073. Full military honors and interment will follow the service at 12:30 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Wayne will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
