I have just learned of David's passing this weekend talking with some friends of Coach Wayne Cosby who was David's football coach in High School. I also was a cheerleader during his time as a greatly remembered player, and yes he did have an infectious smile, don't remember him ever not having a kind word or that smile in our school days together. I will miss seeing him at the reunions as we have lost so many of our classmates too soon, but guess he was needed in heaven to do some running in his heavenly kinddom and I am sure he is doing a fine job there too. He will be missed by many of his classmates and friends and my sympathy to his family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with David's family. Wayne was his high school football coach at Southampton High School and he is fondly remembered as a great running back, as well as a fine young man. Many in Southampton County grieve David's passing.

Heartfelt condolences to David's wife, children and extended family. My prayers are with you at this difficult time. David "Chick" was a phenomenal football player for Southampton High School, helping the team go to back to back championship games. He was a really nice guy. Matt 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Gone too soon. SHS Class of '77.

David and I grew up in the same hometown of Ivor and played football together at Southampton High School. I will always remember him as a really good running back, but mostly as a fun, smiling, and laughing team mate and friend. I had lost touch with him over the years, but always considered him a friend. God Bless his family, he's gone too soon.

David "Chicken" never met a stranger and was a friend to many. His big smile and gentleness were as well known as his athletics. Watching him run the football and break the tackles were a sight to see. Chicken will always be a football legend. Stories will be shared for many generations. My sincere sympathy and prayers. RIP
