Obituary of Mary E Barber
Mary Kirkland Barber, 89, passed away on February 4, 2015 in Orange Park, FL. She was born in Jacksonville, FL, on May 16, 1925 to Lonnie Kirkland Sr. and Daisy Boyette Kirkland.
Mary graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and St. Luke’s Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse. Mary served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Military Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. She was previously employed by St. Vincent’s Hospital and worked with the Orange Park Medical Center Auxiliary.
Mrs. Barber was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and Seniors chairperson. She supported Campers on Mission and disaster relief efforts.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Lonnie Kirkland Jr. and Jack Kirkland; and sister, Sara Kirkland Bollinger.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband of 64 years, Teddy A. Barber Sr.; sons, Teddy A. Barber Jr. and Steven B. Barber; grandchildren, Gregory Barber and Elizabeth Barber; great grandchildren, Jackson Barber and Sophie Grace Barber; a nephew, Charles Barber; nieces, Carroll Sue Roberts, Christie James, Annette Wassmuth, Shirley Pace, Harriett Sterns and Diane Kinchens; and other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service, with Pastor Michael Clifford officiating, will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218. Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, (904) 264-1233, is serving the family.
