Obituary of Michael J. Gillooly
Michael James Gillooly, SCPO USN, Ret., died August 20, 2016 from complications of Parkinson’s disease and pancreatic cancer. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1984, primarily as a P-3 Flight Engineer. He was the son of the late Patrick L. and Ruth Gillooly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Eileen Gillooly; his children, Robert Strickland (Karla), Michel Dees (Mark), Lauren Gillooly Robbins (Charles), Erin Kistner (Rick) and Sarah Gillooly (Mari Schimmer); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, John Gillooly and three sisters, Peg Oliver, Nancy Olsen and Mary Siesky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Maura, infant granddaughters, Cecilia Robbins and Amelia Kistner, and his brother, Lawrence Gillooly.
Visitation with the family and Evening Prayer will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 8523 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32221. A Funeral Mass followed by full military honors will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery will be private.
