Obituary of Sandra Hacker Veal
Sandra Sue Hacker Veal, 70, of Middleburg, FL, died Saturday, 9 July 2016 of complications following open heart surgery. Born 21 September 1945, at NAS Jacksonville, FL, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Milford (Mickey) Hacker, USN-Ret. formerly of Forrest, IL, and the late Wilma Irene (Drennen) formerly of Fairbury, IL.
Sandy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Florida State University, then worked at Riverside Bank. She was a delightful lady, a fun-loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and an ardent fan of all University of Florida sports. She and Lewis enjoyed their faithful love, life and many travel adventures together. After raising her children, Sandy was a cashier at Publix Supermarkets for 17 years, earning various awards for excellence. She was kind and considerate to all, a faithful practicing Christian who loved the Lord and devoted herself to Bible study in depth. Her favorite pastime was playing in handbell choirs, first at Pinewood Presbyterian Church, Middleburg, and lately at Middleburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Lewis Elton Veal, son of the late Prentice Lamar Veal, Sr. and Virginia Inez (Bates); two children, Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Jones and her husband Michael of Lewisville, TX, and Layne Elton Veal of Middleburg, FL; sister, Jean Carolyn Masters of Stamford, CT; two grandsons, Joshua Jones and Daniel Jones of Lewisville, TX.
Sandy’s funeral will be on Thursday, 14 July 2016 at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Rod Whited, formerly of Pinewood Presbyterian Church, at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233, with a viewing from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, Sandy would prefer contributions in any amount to the Institute for Creation Research, PO Box 59029, Dallas, TX 75229; www.icr.org.
