The news of my aunt's transition weighed on my heart but it didn't dampen my spirit because she lived her life for the moment she closed her eyes.
I thought of her children as she was a natural mother, she loved hard, deep and unconditional. As a God~fearing woman when the situation seemed unchangeable she knew that God could change the situation in a minute. She was an old school aunt who stepped in to assist in the upbringing of so many because she knew her role in the village it took to raise her nieces & nephews. She gave freely of herself to anyone who needed her love and wisdom.
As a child I always wanted to go to Big Momma house. I believed we called her Big Momma because of her outward appearance but as I became an adult and a bit wiser I realized it was because of her big heart. Her love was uplifting and consistent.
We must accept what God allows, I know God to be a healer and Big Momma would want us to celebrate her life because she followed the path God set for her.
Auntie you have made your transition from labor to reward rest in paradise and know that I love you beyond life.

"Pearl", is what I called her, what I quickly learned that she was and who I loved and respected I believe more than she will ever know. She was rare, precious and strong much like a pearl able to withstand most elements of this life.
She IS the grandmother of my two sons, Malcolm and Malik Francis. In a number of instances she would serve as my mother. She helped me with our boys during periods that I knew that we really only had "us." The lessons that she taught me then assist me in withstanding life's challenges today.
As I reflect, I remember how much she loved to read. How she would tape college courses for me while I worked or slept, without wavering. I also remember our bible discussions and how excited she would become about God and his glory. She was wise, genuine and confident. She lived love, taught others how to share love, believed that it was unconditional. I must not forget her lessons in the art of forgiving. I realize how important she is to our lives.
Throughout my life I have met many people, I only know one Pearl. I know that she was a blessing, that I am a better person because of Willie Pearl Francis, my Pearl. I love you.
