Obituary of Carla Myers Michelsen

One of God’s great soldiers, Carla Myers Michelsen, 71, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on November 12, 2015. Her passion was gardening and decorating her home, making it a haven for friends and family. She was a great friend to all she met. Many lives have been touched by her love and generosity. She always had time to listen to others. Carla was born and raised in Rome, Georgia, and moved to Jacksonville in her teens. She worked as a bank teller, secretary for her deceased husband, Bill Myers, and later sold real estate until her marriage to Thomas Michelsen. She loved Jesus and her church. She sang in the choir for most of the forty-plus years she attended the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Everyone who met her was enriched. She will be greatly missed here on earth, but we rejoice in knowing she is with her Heavenly Father singing with the angels. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Holland; mother, Martha Holland; sister, Harriet Wilhoit; and son, David Myers. She leaves behind a family of her loving husband, Thomas Michelsen; sons, William Myers and Douglas Myers; daughters-in-law, Deborah Myers and Angela Ritchie; grandchildren, Chadd Myers, Troy Myers, Cody Myers, Alyssa Myers, Olivia Myers, Meghan Myers and Julia Myers; stepchildren, Mathew Michelsen, Marc Michelsen and Amy Schweitzer; stepdaughters-in-law, Jan Michelsen and Amy Michelsen; stepsons-in-law, Mark Schweitzer and John Ritchie; and step-grandchildren, J.P. Ritchie, Sydney Ritchie, Bennett Michelsen, Brady Michelsen, Jared Haffner, Braylen Michelsen, Avery Schweitzer and Colton Schweitzer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her name to the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, 124 West Ashley Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32202. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, 124 West Ashley Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
