Obituary of Anthony John Weber

Anthony John Weber, 81, passed away on February 13, 2016 in Orange Park, Florida. He was born in Millvale, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph Weber and Sabina Fritz. Tony, as he was known to friends and family, celebrated 58 years of marriage in 2015 to Joan Patricia (Pat) Weber, who preceded him in death by 17 days. Tony graduated from North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. After working for Reubin H. Donnelley, Inc. and United States Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, he began an accounting career with the United States government in Dahlgren, Virginia in 1961. In 1983 his accounting work led him overseas where he continued his government career in Italy and Germany until he retired in 1996. While working in Virginia, Tony settled with his growing family in Colonial Beach, Virginia where he was very active supporting his family and community. He was a member of the volunteer rescue squad for over 10 years and a leader of the Twirlettes local majorette and drum corps in which his children participated. He was co-owner of the Pizza Chef Restaurant, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Town Council. With six children enrolled in Colonial Beach schools, Tony was very involved with the PTA, school projects and attending his children’s sporting events. In Colonial Beach Tony was active with St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church as a Lector, President of the Parish Advisory Committee and Chairman of the annual Parish Bazaar. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight of VA Council #4034, where he earned awards for family of the year and member of the year. He organized two K of C state conventions and bowling tournaments and was a lifetime member of the Fourth Degree Knights. While living and working in Europe for 13 years with his wife Pat, he enjoyed the culture, history and food of many countries. After returning from Europe he and Pat retired to Fredericksburg, Virginia and then later Bluffton, South Carolina. In retirement he continued to stay active in his church and the Knights of Columbus and was selected as the Virginia Knight of the Year in 2001. In his retirement Tony also enjoyed golf, card parties and bowling. He was the proud father of six daughters: Audrey Weber (Robert Johnson), Juanita Weber, Yvonne Weber Almeida (Jeff), Janine Weber (Zekeriya Demir), Valerie Weber (Tom Rohrer), and Stacy Weber. He is survived by one brother, Joseph Weber (Maxine) and was preceded in death by his sisters Marie Weber and Ann Weber Sambold. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Emre and Erin Demir, and Kealana and Makoa Almeida. They will all love and cherish their memories of him. A devout Catholic, he always found strength and comfort in his faith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32256. A visitation will be on Wednesday, February 17 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233.
